During the 1200s, the Yamashiro region south of Kyoto produced swords of refined craftsmanship. This blade by the swordsmith Sadatoshi is considered a masterpiece of the Yamashiro tradition. The white line along the cutting edge, the result of a meticulous steel-hardening process, reflects the light with exceptional clarity.
