With a thick blade and wavy tempering pattern, this work illustrates the regional style of Nara swordsmiths. It was forged by Norinaga, a leading member of the Shikkake sword-making school in the 1300s. The blade was gifted to Japan's crown prince by the nobleman Maeda Toshinari in 1909.
